An Early Thanksgiving
Turkey and filling, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pie are all the makings of a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.  But for many it also represented another wondrous event at our church, the Turkey Supper.  As I thought about writing the article for this Turkey Supper, a general theme of thanksgiving kept surfacing in my thoughts.
We have so many things to be thankful for and the first I thought of was for Donna Breneman.  Donna shared with us at a planning meeting how she felt God leading her to organize a Turkey Supper.  Many prayers were lifted up for this supper by Donna and those on the committee, along with many of the congregation.  Many of us were thankful for Donna’s organizational skills as she delegated tasks to various groups and people.  Long hours of planning and preparation went into such an uplifting opportunity for Lincoln Chapel.
What a blessing Lincoln Chapel has in its congregation.  An overwhelming response ensued Donna’s announcement of a Turkey Supper at our church.  Sign up sheets filled quickly as members and friends were eager to help prepare foods, do errands, serve our guests, and even clean up.  As I have heard Donna say, it couldn’t have been done without all of the congregation’s support and help and for that, we can be thankful.  What a blessing we have seen and shared with the community outside our doors.
Above all, we give thanks to God for His blessing upon our endeavor.  Knowing that God was among us and feeling His presence as we worked, filled people with awe.  Comments abounded for the “well oiled machine” that our church is; compliments of each person working well with one another.
Yes, we have many things to be thankful for.  For the 547 people we served, for the money to be used for missions (almost $3,000); for the abundance of help (I stopped counting at 50 but guesses were closed to 60 or 70); for the leadership of our administrative council; the guidance of Pastor Jon; the skills of Donna; and for each of you who worked and cleaned and cooked and served and ran errands and prayed.  Thanks be to God for His presence among us, for His hand to guide us, and for His love to sustain us.
