Country Living
Twelve women gathered together at the home of Helen
and John Benfer on September 11th for a United Methodist Women's picnic.
Driving toward their home, I was reminded of how quickly the seasons can change.
Just this past weekend, we were in the midst of summer - trying to keep cool and
refreshed on those long hot days. But approaching this beautiful country
home, the summer days had disappeared and a cool autumn evening was descending
on the valley all around.
Surrounded by trees, the women on the patio could take
in the valley and mountains as far as the eye could see. The cool breeze
rustling through the towering shade trees kept reminding us we were just
visitors, enjoying nature as God had made it. Just off the patio was a
wonderful flower bed with a fountain, giving us the sound of trickling water
which added to our nature experience.
It was hard to imagine that we were close to Route 45
as no sounds from the highway were heard where we were. What a glorious
start to the beginning of the United Methodist Women's fall kick-off. As
the group fellowshipped and ate, and there was quite a bit of food, we discussed
upcoming church events and projects.
The United Methodist Women has always been a group of
women dedicated to God and focused on women, children and missions.
Programs and business meetings have kept the group focused and plans are in the
works to restructure our evenings and gathers to include fellowship, devotions,
fun and games, along with the important mission work we do. And we've even
decided to include food!
Since our service auction is only two months away, it
was suggested the women donate an item to help support our church in this fun
project. And so, the United Methodist Women will be donating two baskets
filled with goodies, each with it's own unique theme. More information on
these baskets will be placed in the bulletin.
Next month's meeting will be on October 9th and will
begin our new fun line up of activities which will carry us through to spring.
Some of our "meeting" themes are "Autumn Sheep", "Spring Flowers", "Hat
Hilarity" and more. Watch upcoming bulletins and newsletters for more
information on gatherings and meetings.
All are invited to join us at our meetings and
gatherings. We look forward to seeing you there!
