Habitat For Humanity
Volunteers are the heart of Habitat for Humanity, some of whom offer
professional skills, including: carpentry, electrical wiring, masonry,
accounting, public relations and even photography. Most pitch in wherever
needed. The mission of Habitat for Humanity International is to eliminate
sub-standard housing worldwide. Families who are in need and who cannot achieve
home ownership otherwise may qualify for a Habitat home if they have the ability
to repay a modest no interest mortgage and who work on the construction along
with other volunteers.
There is always a need for actual construction volunteers – sanding,
hammering, sealing drywall, painting and landscaping. The operation is
supervised by competent experts and the volunteers can learn new skills as they
contribute their efforts to build a Habitat home.
There are many behind the scenes jobs required for Habitat to be
successful. Fund raising is necessary in order to buy material and pay for those
projects where professional expertise is required. Public Relations are also
needed to keep Habitat for Humanity in the public eye through newspapers,
radios, posters, and speeches.
