Who Am I?

     I am from the tribe of Benjamin and live in Susa, a large city in Persia.  I adopted my cousin who I raised as my own daughter.  The king’s guards came one day and took her to live in the king’s home.  Soon the king banished his wife and my cousin became the new queen. 
     One day, while I was sitting at the king’s gate, I over heard a plot by two if the king’s men to kill him.  So I sent word to the new queen and she told the king of the plot.  My name was recorded in the royal chronicles because I did a great service to the king.
     There was a man who had the highest position in the king’s court.  He made everyone bow down to him but I refused.  This man became angry with me and tried to destroy all the Jews in the Persian empire.  Once again, I told my nice, the queen, and she went to the king.  The king was angry against this plot because he found out that the queen would be harmed because she was also Jewish. 
     The man who didn’t like me was punished and my people were able to defend themselves.  After this, the king gave me the same position as the man who didn’t like me.  Because my people protected themselves, they now celebrate an event each year called the Feast of Purim.
